NYC Subway Sounds
I really like this audio compilation because I imagine/remember myself in all of the stations. It’s like nostalgia for something I still experience everyday.
NYCSubwaySounds1.alexreisner.com.mp3
From the author’s blog entry…
Part of the job of a subway conductor is to announce station names and explain delays and route changes. But some conductors do much more. Especially on weekends riders may hear about what attractions are near the current stop or a brief history of the neighborhood. But my favorite aspect of the announcements is simply the variety of tone and timbre in conductors’ voices. As the announcements on the subways become automated (as they are now on most 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and L trains) we will unfortunately lose this art, and so I have decided to document it for my own (and now your) enjoyment by making recordings.

Snuggie Dog!
thanks Drew for this. I really think those dog sweaters look uncomfy – I’M SOLD!
Drink up
If you really love True Blood (like I do) and you want to drink some bloodlike stuff while you watch, you’re in luck! They are going to make it a real (not actually blood) beverage – the NYT says so. Sort of gross right? But how fun would it be to have a True Blood party and drink that stuff and then bite people. FUNSIES!
Pie on a stick!
I like this description of these delish looking pies on sticks ‘Pies to go. Work friendly, Driving friendly, Boyfriend friendly, Cellulite friendly, and embarrassment free pie pops.’
Blog of the Day: Australia in the ’80s
The Powerhouse museum is putting together an exhibit on Australia in the 1980’s and have created a blog to assist with their research. It’s pretty awesome. There are great music videos, tv shop clips, old video games, etc. I can’t stop watching the Adam Ant video from the first post this morning. Get it HERE.
Mad Men yourself
This is me going out for a night on the town with all my bling and the coffee I carry with me everywhere. Now you try.
Ever want to know what sounds animals make in other languages?
This site has it all and in a really cool format. I always thougth that in french dogs went “wau wau,” but it’s actually “woof woof.” And Russian dogs go “guff guff.”
Vintage Furniture in Greenpoint
Connie and Dom (new roommates) are curating/selling/hosting a sale of vintage mid-century furniture from an old Catholic church and school in Greenpoint. They’re having a sale this coming weekend and an open house on Friday (i’ll be making cupcakes!). Check out more HERE.
Book posters – my new design want
I’m trying to steer clear of bring more gig posters into our apartment, and while searching through Livingetc.com, I came across this:
I’m now totally obsessed with book posters. This is one of my favorites:
“If you want to write rock lyrics…
…you must learn about where the hobbits dwell.” I forgot how great Yo La Tengo’s video for Sugarcube until right now.
An oldie but a goodie.
You get a car!
I couldn’t find the actual clip, but this gives you a taste.
Your Wildest Dreams Have Come True
Has everyone seen this already? I think it’s the funniest thing ever.
New post for the autotune debate
The video below gives you an idea of where Jay-z stands on the issue.
I wonder if he’d feel differently if he watched autotune the news…
Wolf man teaches baby wolf to howl
adorable!!
Cleveland Will Kill New York
Cool prints from Cristopher Wade Sherron. Christopher, I have one question for you- why coudln’t you include Indianapolis? Indianapolis will kill Dubai? hehehe.
*Taking a cue from hip hop culture, these posters were made to provoke attention towards an unacknowledged city by starting beef with well-known, prosperous cities in hopes to gain notoriety.
*Edition of 100 posters (20 for each beef). If you would like to purchase one or more for $10 each please email me.

I can’t figure out when this movie is coming to theaters. But…I need to see it.
Small Things Eating Big Things
This website is cute and new and Drew made some pictures for it! His drawings might be my favorities, but ya know, I’m biased. The mastermind behind SMEBT is Sanjay, and here’s his comic which is also great!
Kitten eating Elephant
Baby eating Airplane
Herb & Dorothy
I really really want to see this movie about a librarian and a postal worker who collect millions of dollars worth of minimalist/conceptual art in their tiny one bedroom apartment. Looks adorable.
Read the New York Times review of it HERE, below is the trailer.

The Whitney is hosting some fun bands in honor of their exhibit on Dan Graham. I thought you should know. I kind of love Vivian Girls- I might try and make it to that show.

I just went to a Carvel ice cream stand for the first time and I can’t believe this cake exists and is marketed towards children.
I love ‘Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me’
…and I love Peter Sagal even more after watching this, his 1988 appearance on Jeopardy:
Dan sent that to me ages ago, but I’m just getting around to posting it now. Nora fail.
Also, I love this story he wrote for the NY Times Magazine in 2007. So adorable.

Nailed It!
Czech photographer Vlad Artazov uses nails to create sculptures of everyday situations. A couple examples:
The rest of the series is here. Via Andrew Sullivan’s The Daily Dish, which has been one of the best news sources over the past month.
Overdue
It feels like years since I’ve posted on CWL, so I’m going to make up for it now.
First, let’s look at this kitchen: great color and hardware, no? I think it’s cute.
Dog Mayor!
Rabbit Hash, KY knows how to run an election. Meet their mayor, Lucy Lou.
Personally, I think the cat candidate was robbed. Travis was 2nd runner up- from his bio:
“Travis chose Rabbit Hash and you should choose this cat to be the new Mayor of Rabbit Hash. He is the ONLY candidate that actually resides in Rabbit Hash.” Sad. More information on this historic election here.
Weeeeeeeeeeeee!
Creepy or awesome? You decide.
brooklyn museum artifact replicated for true blood
Wow. Two of my favorite things in the world right now, the Brooklyn Museum and HBO’s new series True Blood, just blew my mind a lot. According to the Brooklyn Museum’s blog, the Bird Lady artifact featured in the first episode of season 2 is a replica of an artifact in the museum’s collections and was just featured in an a recent exhibit. holy shit. The most awesome Shelley Bernstein had the honor of talking to the production designer about the statue. Read the interview HERE. And another BK Museum blog entry HERE.
ps. i just learned from the brooklyn museum blog that HBO has made a True Blood wiki. Play with it HERE. wow. i feel super nerdy for posting that now.
